Valencia N. Poitier, Esquire attended the University of Florida where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. Subsequently, she attended Nova Southeastern University and obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration with a double specialization in Finance and Marketing. She then attended Barry University School of Law where she attained a Juris Doctorate. Valencia is licensed to practice law in the State of Florida and the District of Columbia (Washington, D.C.), as well as two federal courts.
Valencia began her career as an Assistant Public Defender and served in that capacity for a little more than four years. After serving as an Assistant Public Defender, Valencia became an Assistant State Attorney prosecuting felony offenses that included violent crimes, drug crimes, child abuse and sex crimes, to name a few. She spent the last year of her career at the State Attorney’s Office assigned to the Special Victims Unit. Most notably, she prosecuted a human trafficking case and received a guilty verdict on all counts, for which a life sentence was imposed. After leaving the public sector, she entered the civil realm where she worked on first-party and third-party insurance defense matters and construction defect cases.
Currently Valencia works as Senior Staff Counsel for American Integrity Insurance Company. Valencia has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Florida A&M University College of Law where she has utilized her experience to teach and mentor law students. Valencia is a recent recipient of the Elite Lawyer Award. She has also twice received the Lawyer Monthly Legal Award in Litigation, and the Finance Monthly Legal Award.
While at the University of Florida Valencia was very active in many organizations. Most notably, she is a member of Florida Blue Key Leadership Honorary and was a recipient of the Presidential Recognition for Outstanding Achievement and Contribution at the University of Florida.
Valencia’s passion for helping the community is indicative in the service activities that she has participated in throughout the years. She has been appointed by the Florida Supreme Court to serve on the Florida Bar Association Mediator Qualifications Board and the Mediator Qualifications Inquiry Committee. She was also previously appointed by the President of the Florida Bar Association to serve on the Governmental & Public Policy Advocacy Committee. Valencia has also dedicated her time in serving as a member in many county bar associations, including the Orange County Bar Association, Florida Defense Lawyers Association, Florida Association for Women Lawyers, Central Florida Association for Women Lawyers, Paul C. Perkins Bar Association, to name a few. She has also served as a speaker and mentor through the Envisions Career Academy through the University of Florida, as well as at law schools, and the Southern Region Black Law Students Association. Valencia has also dedicated her time to serving as a mock trial judge and previously served on the Edison Festival of Light Board of Directors in Lee County. She has also served as an Associate member of the Calusa Chapter of American Inns of Court. Valencia has further extended her service to the community as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
