UF ABA SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION AND GUIDELINES

2021 APPLICATION NOW OPEN!

The UF ABA Scholarship fund was originally established on January 26, 2011. Since the fall of 2011, UF ABA and the Green Family has awarded nearly $45,000 to support deserving Black scholars pursue their education at the University of Florida. 

The Association of Black Alumni is an affiliate of the University of Florida Alumni Association, Inc. and is operated primarily for educational and charitable purposes in support of the University of Florida, as set forth in the Association’s Charter. The ABA Endowed Scholarship was developed to support a sophomore, junior, or senior student who has demonstrated academic merit, leadership skills, involvement in the University or Gainesville community, and involvement with the University’s Department of Black Affairs. The recipient will be chosen by a selection committee formed by the Association of Black Alumni.

This year, the ABA will award several $1,000 scholarships during the virtual Black Alumni Weekend Reunion Weekend to be held October 8-10, 2021 in Gainesville, FL. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their applications and supporting documentation well in advance of the 9/3/21 deadline.

 

Scholarship Eligibility:

  • Academics Applicants must be a sophomore, junior or senior at the University of Florida and have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA to qualify for the scholarship.
  • Community Service Applicants must show a strong commitment to serving the community and have completed at least 30 hours of community service during this year. If community service hours are
    completed with different organizations, please submit one for each organization.

Please submit your application by Friday, September 3, 2021 by 11:59 PM EST. If selected, applicant must be available to attend the Black Alumni Reunion festivities in October 2021. Selected recipients will be notified by phone or email by late September.

  2. Headshot photograph to be used in scholarship program (as well as ABA publications to include social media, marketing, and/or websites)
  3. Resume (two page max)
  4. Written documentation of community hours served from non-profit organization. (Must be on letterhead)
