Kamelya Hinson

Kam is a seasoned communications and public affairs professional, currently serving as Senior Health Communication Specialist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Her work has been recognized with awards for emergency response, communication excellence, and promoting health equity.
Kam has taken on significant roles in public health emergencies, leading crisis communication efforts during the Zika Response in American Samoa and serving as the Senior Communication Liaison Officer for multiple hurricane responses in the US Virgin Islands. In 2021, she was honored with the Health and Human Services Pledge to Excellence Award for her efforts in procuring ventilators during the COVID-19 Response.
An active alumna, Kam has dedicated over 12 years to leadership roles within the University of Florida Alumni Association’s Atlanta Gator Club and ABA-Atlanta, earning the UFAA National Leader of the Year award for her contributions. Additional community involvement includes fostering rescue dogs with Angels Among Us Pet Rescue and Autism Advocate, supporting parents of children on the spectrum.
She has two adult daughters: Maya, an Interior Architect, and Tierra, a UF senior majoring in Digital Arts & Sciences. Her mother, State Representative Yvonne Hinson, is a double Gator and former president of UF Black Alumni.
